David Carlson was born in Saskatchewan, Canada.

I, David Paul Carlson, was born to Howard Carlson and private mother in City Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I am the eldest of five siblings.

For the first few months of my life, my parents and I lived on the farm of my paternal great grandparents, Egbert and Elfrieda Carlson. In the spring of 1961, we moved to Saskatoon. There my two oldest sisters were born. In late 1965 or early 1966, we moved to North Vancouver, British Columbia. There my brother was born. I attended two schools in North Vancouver, Queen Mary Elementary School, and then North Star Elementary School. We moved to Haney (later renamed Maple Ridge), BC in May 1967. There my youngest sister was born. I attended Yennadon Elementary School there. This was my third school attended in Grade 1.
