Florence was born in 1905. She was the youngest daughter of Eric (Carlström) Carlstrom and Hannah (Sundström) Carlstrom, both Swedish immigrants. [1] [2] [3]
She was raised on a farm in Granstburg, Wisconsin in a family of seven children and was especially close to her youngest sister, Amy. She was baptized in 1907 at Salem Lutheran Church. At some later point the family became Seventh Day Adventists. She attended grade school at Wood Lake in Wisconsin and continued to correspond with one of her teachers for her entire life.
In 1924 (note she was there in 1924 but possibly earlier?) Florence went away to Broadview College in LaGrange, Illinois where she met David Keacher. The two of them married in June 1928. A short time later they moved to North Branch, Minnesota. [4]
Her daughter Lois was born in 1930 and her twin sons Wilbur and Robert were born in 1931.
Florence was a tiny little lady, just barely over five feet tall, but she was a strong woman and a hard worker under adverse conditions. She was a home maker in every sense of the word. There would always be fresh baked bread and caramel rolls, pies, cakes, & cookies for her family, all baked on the big black wood stove. She canned many quarts of fruits and vegetables each summer, also jams and jellies.
Florence was skiled at sewing and the start of each school year meant new hand-sewn dresses for her daughter Lois. Old coats from extended family became new coats or jackets for her children
She instilled the values from her Seventh Day Adventist faith, teaching her children right from wrong, and to always be kind to others.
She was a God-fearing woman who knew the scriptures well, and was a kind and gentle woman.
In 1935, during the depths of the Great Depression, the family moved to the Stacy, Minnesota Telephone office and remained there until 1940. [5] In 1941 they purchased a farm in Harris, Minnesota and lived there until June of 1951 when they moved to a home in Cambridge, Minnesota near Sunfish Lake.
During their retirement years, from October of 1970 until September of 1981, David and Florence lived in the quaint town of Salem in the Ozarks region of northern Arkansas.
David and Florence spent their final years living in Pine City, Minnesota. In March 1993 she moved into the Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City.
She passed away in October 1993, just a few weeks after her husband David. [6] [7] [8]
