I grew up thinking I was named William Thomas after my father William and my mothers brother Thomas. I have since found that I share the same name with my Great Great grandfather . I have always enjoyed History and wanted to be an American History teacher when I started College. I was born December 29, 1952 in Spencer, Tennessee. My parents were living in Alexander City, AL at the time but due to health reasons, my Mother was staying with her parents. Due to the school rules at that time, I began the first grade when I was 5 years old and did not turn 6 until half of the school was over. I was 16 years old half of my Senior year in High School. Always the youngest and the biggest.
My father was a Baptist Minister which resulted in us moving around quite a bit. We lived 8 of my first 14 years in Alabama in various towns. My wife doubts me but I can honestly say I can remember things before my 3rd birthday. I am told I have a good memory with the ability to remember precise details and facts. I always enjoyed time spent with my grandparents and hearing about my family history. I just wish I had asked more questions.
I was in the Flexible packaging business for 48 years and have now been married to my wife Barbara 52 years. Blessed with one daughter who was clearly a gift from God not only to me but to all who meet her.
I became interested in learning as much as I could about the Carlton's but never dreamed I could learn so much about other branches of my family tree.
I have traveled to 48 states in the US and have plans to see the last two (North Dakota and Montana) before I get too old. I retired on December 31, 2018 and started a small part-time delivery job on January3rd, 2019. Just not ready for the sofa just yet.
The most important thing I have done is when I became a Christian. I walked the aisle when I was 9 and was baptized in the Stones River. That was because my Daddy was preaching on HELL and I did not want to go there. When I was 33 years old, I actually became a Christian when I surrendered my life to Christ and made him Lord and Savior. Not perfect, still a sinner, but Forgiven.
