The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9th at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10th also at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Lynne Camilla Carlton Matcek was born in Covington, Kentucky, July 20, 1938, and was adopted by Hugh and Marjorie Carlton from the Methodist Children’s Home in Jacksonville, Florida in 1942. She graduated from Summerlin Institute (High School), Bartow, Florida in 1956, and received a BS in Education Science from Erskine College, Due West, South Carolina, in 1960. She later received a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Houston. She was an elementary teacher and taught third grade at Deer Park Elementary for 28 years, most of those years in the same classroom.

Lynne married Gable Matcek of Caldwell in 1962 and they made their home in Pasadena, Texas. Three sons were born to the union: Trevin, Thane and Tyron. Lynne, Gable (and sons) retired to Caldwell in 1989. She was an active member of the Burleson County Lions Club and served as Secretary and Treasurer for many years, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for her lengthy membership and service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Caldwell, a member of it’s congregational and handbell choir. Lynne served a secretary in the church office for several years and was very giving of her time with activities and functions of the church. At dinners, luncheons and other gatherings at the church, she was the first to arrive to assist and the last to leave.

Lynne was an avid bridge player and a member of several clubs. So many of these clubs met at the Mad Hatter, where she was famous for scoring “first”. Another hobby was her love and expertise in sewing and quilting, and she was a longtime member of the Creative Memories Quilt Guild of Caldwell. Her collection of sewing and quilting machines, cutters, special rulers, and yards and yards of material for every quilting occasion, necessitated a separate “Lynne’s Quilting Cottage” next to her home. She enjoyed a special relationship with animals, cats being her favorite, and was insistent that each had a unique name. Her granddaughter, Ayla Matcek, helped name her most recent cat, “Pickles”.

Lynne was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Marjorie Carlton, of Bartow, Florida.

She is survived by her husband Gable, sons, Trevin of Los Angeles, California, Thane and wife Autumn and their children, Ayla and Sayer of Round Rock, Texas, and Tyron and wife Rachel and their children, Lillian, Tyron, Jr., and Trent of Caldwell. Her brother Glenn Carlton & wife Jean of Brandon, Florida. A sister, Faith Ward of Caldwell. One brother-in-law, Clinton Matcek of College Station. And many, many nephew and nieces. Lynne’s was very proud of her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Me Me”.

Remembrances may be made to “The First United Methodist Church of Caldwell or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
