William was born about 1800 in Virginia. His parents were Cornelius Carmack and Letitia McMillian. William married Jane McCormick and they moved to Overton Co., Tennessee between 1820-1830. At the time of the 1850 Census, they were living in Overton County, Tennessee, with the following household members:
