Anna Margaret Carman was born in Fishkill Landing, Westchester Co, NY, the 2nd of 3 known surviving children (all girls) born to Charles Carman and his wife, Catherine Avery. She moved to Matawan around 1900, at about age 12, when he father joined her uncle, James D. Avery, at the Cliffwood Brick Company.

In 1913 she became the 2nd wife of Dr. Augustus R. White, a well-known dentist in Freehold. His first wife, Hannah Woolley, had died in 1910 leaving him with 2 young daughters to raise. Anna and Augustus would have two daughters together -- Catherine Carman White, and Margaret Ann White.

Anna died of complications from the Spanish Influenza in 1919, at the young age of 30. Her husband would later remarried for a third time to Mary Rosell. Anna's obituary appeared in the Jan 2, 1919 edition of the Matawan Journal:

ANNA MARGARET CARMAN, wife of Dr. Augustus R. White of Freehold and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carman of Matawan, died yesterday at her home 85 East Main St, Freehold from pneumonia, aged 30 years. Mrs. White was first taken sick 10 days ago with Spanish influenza which developed into pneumonia and in spite of the efforts of the physicians, her decline followed. She leaves her husband and two daughters -- Catherine Carman and Margaret Anne. Besides these, she is survived by her parents and two sisters. These are Mrs. Walter V. Patton and Miss Grace Carman, both of Matawan. Services held in the Episcopal Church, Freehold, and internment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery.∼Red Bank Register 1/8/1919 pg. 3 Col 1
