Duncan Carmichael was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland on 9 May, 1850. He was the son of Donald Carmichael and Mary McDonald.
At the time of the 1851 Scotland Census, Donald, Mary, Mary, Hugh, and Duncan Carmichael were listed as living in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, along with Duncan Carmichael, who may have been Donald's brother, and two other lodgers.[1][2]
Donald, Mary, Mary, Duncan, John, and Donald Carmichael were listed as living at 230 Holm Street, Barony, Blythswood, Lanarkshire during the 1871 Scotland Census.
Duncan married Isabella McMillan.
By the time of the 1881 Census of Scotland, the family had moved to Hutchesontown in the Gorbals, Glasgow.[3] The family were still living in the Gorbals ten years later,[4] and ten years after that.[5].
Duncan emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1911.[6]
At the time of the 1911 Canada Census, Duncan, Isabella, William, Duncan, and John Carmichael were listed as living at 1167 Howe Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, along with Mary, Thomas, and William E. Edgar, and three lodgers.[7]
At the time of the 1921 Canada Census, Duncan, Isabella, Wm, Duncan, and John Carmichael were listed as living at 1923 1st Avenue West, Vancouver, British Columbia, along with Duncan and Isabella's daughter Mary Edgar and her son William.[8]
In all his census records, Duncan's occupation was listed as "Blacksmith".
Duncan died in his son's home in Vancouver on April 22, 1932,[9] and was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.[10]
