Article below from the December 12, 1910 Crawfordsville Daily Journal (Crawfordsville, Indiana)"

"MAN RUN OVER WAS BADLY HURT---WILLIAM CARMICHAEL OF NEAR LAGODA HAD A NARROW ESCAPE--TWO FELLOWS IN BUGGY BOWL OVER HIM IN ROAD---RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS AND WAS FOUND LATER ON ROAD--

Special to the Journal---Lagoda, December 12--The finding of William Carmichael, aged 65 years Saturday night about 6 o'clock lying unconscious in the highway near his house about a half mile south of here in an unconscious condition, with two ugly wounds in the head caused considerable excitement for a time. It was at first thought that he had met with foul play, and as he could not tell his story until Monday morning, the facts were then that he had been bowled over by a couple of boys or men in a buggy who came from the south and were going towards Lagoda. It is supposed the fellows were some "Haw Creekers" who were on their way to town. Whoever they were, they did not stop to care for their victim, and for all they know he had been killed outright.

Mr. Carmichael is a married man, and works for Martin Hicks who resides near Roachdale. Having finished his days work, he was returning to his home in a buggy and alighted in front of his home and was crossing the road, when these fellows came along at a high rate of speed, ran over him and passed on. Carmichael was badly hurt, there being a cut several inches long on the side of his face and another deep wound on the back of his head. In his dazed condition after the accident he evidently walked about a hundred yards down the road where he became unconcious and fell to the ground.

He had been there about half an hour when Fred Ashby and Clifford Clore of this place, who were on their way to a dinner party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Sidener, three miles southwest of Lagoda, came along and discovered the injured man. Just as they came up to him, Harley Bymaster and Gilbert Morrison, both of Lagoda came up. They found that Carmichael was seriously hurt, and the former took him to his home in their auto, then went for Drs. Price and Peacock. The victim's arms were cold to his elbows, and his legs to his knees. The physicians resusitated him after much work. They state that the patient would have died soon had he been left out there on the cold ground."
