Born 01/26/1958 Baton Rouge LA. Lived in Plaquemine LA, Lake Jackson TX, Austin TX

In the mid 1990's I contacted the Centre Généalogique de l'Ouest, asking for information on the Berteau family in Nantes, prior to their removal to Canada and Louisiana. I received a letter from Maurice Raimbault of Nantes, who kindly shared his family tree showing that we were 12th cousins.

I visited Maurice and his sisters on each of my 9 visits to Europe, and they were cherished members of my family for many years.

I have a pretty large number of family members on paper, which I hope to enter electronically on this site so that it can become more accessible to all interested genealogists.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Dale by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage (beta) of DNA with Dale:

Hi 6th cousin Dale,

I'm very interested in the LeBeau line you are working on. In particular I am wondering if there are any living males who would be willing to do a Y-DNA test to see if they match me.

My Lebeau forebear arrived in the Montreal region about 1671. Familysearch trees show Edouard Denys LeBeau as descending from Pierre Lebeau, Sr b. 1721. It occurs to me that said Pierre could be part of the same Lebeau line and had either travelled back to France or was descended from the same line as my ancestors.

Hi 8th cousin Dale!

Thanks for all the work you're doing on Louisiana profiles. As part of the Louisiana Families Project I'm tasked with looking at edits made on project managed profiles, which is why I'm here-- just trying to help you help WT! You edited the marriage data on Simon Raphael Babin, and thank you for that. The thing I want to let you know is Louisiana was not part of the USA at the time of his marriage (the La Purchase was 1803). WT wants data entered "using their conventions, not ours." Please check the project pages for lots of helpful information. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions, and thanks again for all you do!

Hi Joyce! Thank you for contacting me. I do try to add locations in their correct context, but I also have a limited choice in the dropdown box. So if I have the chance to select "Spanish Louisiana" or "French Louisiana" prior to 1803, I try to do it. If not, I have to select what is in the box. If there is a good workaround I would love to hear how you do it. Thanks a lot for all the great info you have done.

Hi Dale,

--but I'm Steff, not Joyce. Joyce is not your cousin, I am.

Anyway, now that we've straightened that out, let's talk about the locations dropdown boxes. You correctly state that the selections there are limited. However you are mistaken in thinking "I have to select what is in the box." You most definitely do NOT have to select from the box, and a big orange blurb pops up each time you do, telling you those selections are optional. Someone imported that feature from Family Search, and many, MANY of the options are just plain wrong. It's a convenience that is often helpful, but use it with care, because you often have to manually correct your selection. (THAT'S the workaround! Or just fill it in manually yourself.) Here's an example you might know off the top of your head if you ever lived in Louisiana: one choice the dropdown gives you for New Orleans is "New Orleans, Jefferson, Louisiana." No part of the city of New Orleans is in Jefferson Parish. (I know this because I grew up there. And then I googled it to see if I was the crazy one.)

Hope this helps!

Hi Dale,

You added some marriage information for https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hebert-316, and I'm hoping you can add the source! You can list it just under the other one at the bottom of the Sources. Thanks!

Hi Dale,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi Dale and thank you for volunteering!
