Biography
Joseph Carncross or Cairncross was born about 1816 in Croydon Surrey England. He was the son of Joseph Cairncross and his wife Sarah[1]
Joseph married Ann Barns at Saint Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex, England in 1845[2] They had three children; Mary, Jane and a son Joseph Henry who died as an infant. Joseph Carncross was a Mariner. He jumped ship in Australia to join the Gold Rush and thus abandoned his English wife and daughters.
In 1853 Edith Cutten married Joseph Carncross in the Colony of Victoria[3]
First in 1858 then in 1861 Joseph Carncross was insolvent in the Colony of Victoria.

Joseph Carncross died in New Zealand in 1885. He was 69.
