Biography

Annie was born in 1889. She was the daughter of Elizah Carneal. She passed away in 1944.

Undated letter from my maternal aunt, Maggie Louise Guthrie Brown, daughter of Edna Lou Wallace Guthrie and granddaughter of Louisa Alice Wells Wallace, to Jan Jennings. Aunt Louise grew up in Canyon, Texas, but she visited Erath County, Texas often throughout her life. In 1929, Louise and her sister Carrie spent three weeks there with aunts and uncles. Lou remained in touch with family all her life.

"Buck and Mollie Carneal had four children that lived to be adults. Their oldest was Annie; she married John Watts. They lived in Amarillo, Texas, and had a furniture store there. They had a daughter who went to college in Clarendon and graduated. She got a teaching job in Canyon, went to Europe that summer and was late getting back. She missed the first day of school. She taught your mom and dad [Jack Neil Jennings and Ruby Guthrie graduated from Canyon High School in 1936]. Jack says he still has knots on his head where Ola Mae hit him with her Clarenden ring. She married, lived in Fort Worth, last days in a nursing home. Her husband wrote to me and her younger sister. I don't remember her name. The last letter I had from Ola Mae was in 1986. She was married to Robert Holley, no children. If you will look at that [1937] Wells family reunion photo taken in Stephenville, that lady wearing the large hat is Annie Watts. Annie is the third row up, same row as Edna Guthrie."[1]
