James L. "Jim" Carner, 51, of 36 Rosewood Lane died Wednesday, March 6, 1996, at Pekin Hospital.

Born Nov. 16, 1944, in Cairo to Howard and Dorothy Barrett Carner, he married Donna Campbell on Dec. 18, 1971, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one guardian son, Joshua Mott at home; his father and stepmother, Howard and Charlotte Carner of Norman, Ind.; his stepfather and his wife, Walter and Sharon Richter of Caseyville; one sister, Robin Porch of Belleville; one brother, Michael Carner of Granite City; one half brother, Jeff Carner of Ottawa, Kan.; and two stepbrothers, David Merry of Norman and Walter Richter Jr. of Collinsville.

His mother and one stepbrother preceded him in death.

For the past three years, he was assistant principal at Pekin Community High School's East Campus. Previously, he taught geography at the school, where he was head of the social studies department. He was named "Teacher of the Year" in 1986.

Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
