Jehu was born the 27th of August 1801 in Lee County, Virginia.
He married Nancy Burton in 1820 at McMinn County, Tennessee and they raised a family of about twelve children: James, Mary, Nancy Jane, Edith, John, Josiah, Matilda, Lydia, Levi, William, Thomas and one daughter whose name is unknown (b. 1830-1836 d. bef 1840). The family moved to Missouri about 1838-1840.
Jehu was a Methodist circuit rider. His congregational activities were centered at Carnes Camp Ground, west of the Gasconade River near Van Cleve, Missouri. Carnes Branch, running into the Little Tavern Creek, was also named for him.
He died on the 25th of March 1867 at his home on the Little Tavern Creek in Maries County, Missouri.
Transcribers on census records on FS who are unfamiliar with the family often have this man's name indexed as John on records.
