Obituary notice, The Owensboro Messenger 20 Feb 1947: Russell L. Carnes, 45, 1626 Cary Court, died at the Owensboro-Daviess County hospital at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday following a short illness. He was a partner in the Owensboro Storage Battery company. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Dorothy Carnes; two sons, Charles and Thomas Carnes; his father, Charles W. Carnes, Falmouth, Ky; two sisters, Mrs. Mary C. Bradford, Falmouth, and Mrs. Paul Wesche, Morehead. The body is at the Haley-McGinnis Funeral home, 519 Locust Street. Services will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. W. H. Heard, pastor of Eaton Memorial Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be E. C. Akin, Robert Alexander, John Norris, George Morris, S. K. Hagan.

He was first buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky and later re-interred in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Pendleton County, Kentucky.
