Marie Bowen Carpenter was born on 25 August 1905 in Columbus, Ohio, United States. She was the second of five children born to Canadian parents Charles Carpenter and Lucy Bowen. [1] [2]
Charlie and Lucy Carpenter had five children, who were raised in various cities as Charlie transferred to different field offices as an executive with the Canada General Life Insurance company. Marie was the second child. Her sister Eileen was born a year earlier in 1904 in Quebec. The three younger children were Carothers, born in 1913, Joan, born in 1919, and James, born in 1921. The three younger children went to Beverly Hills High School in Southern California.
Marie and Eileen came of age in Toronto, Canada. Each sister married a young man from Toronto, and each couple started a family. Marie married Donald Gordon Ross on 23 October 1926 in Toronto. [3] On 6 July 1928 Marie gave birth to a son named William Donald Ross. The marriage was unhappy and led to a divorce. Marie Ross moved to Southern California to be near her family, Donald Ross entered the Canadian Army, and their son Bill Ross was raised by family members in the Toronto region.

On 8 March 1938 Marie married Albert E. Beaumont, a widower informally known as Aub, in Ventura, California. [4] Aub was raising three sons, Maurie (1920-2008), Jack (1924-2013), and Will (1930-2020). Aub was a World War I veteran from Winnipeg, Canada, an Army officer in the Winnipeg Grenadiers who was injured in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917. [5] In the 1930s Aub worked as an accountant for Pacific Glass Co. in Los Angeles, California. In 1940 Bill Ross, then a 12 year old, traveled by train from Toronto to move in with his mother and his new step-father, and three new step-brothers.
Marie and Aub lived on Larke Ellen Circle in the Beverlywood neighborhood of West Los Angeles. They also kept an apartment in Palm Springs for a second home. The four boys each graduated from Hamilton High School. Maurie and Jack each served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Maurie was stationed at airbases in England, and Jack at airbases in Italy. After the war Maurie Beaumont went straight to work, while Jack Beaumont graduated from UCLA with a degree in Accounting. Bill Ross graduated from University of Southern California with a degree in Business. Will Beaumont graduated from UCLA with a degree in Art.
When Aub retired in the late 1950s the couple moved to a small villa in Torremolinos, Spain, near Malaga on the Mediterranean coast. They retained their British passports.
Marie passed away on 16 April 1975, and was buried at English Cemetery, Malaga, Spain. [6]
Aub passed away on 5 December 1976, and was buried in the same plot beneath a single headstone at Cementario Ingles de Malaga, Malaga, Spain.
