Ellsworth Kearney Carpenter was born on August 7, 1860, in Columbia, Ohio, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Clarissa, was 36. He married Idora Alfaretta Bartley on August 4, 1880, in Meigs, Ohio. They had five children in 15 years. He died on November 12, 1946, in Athens, Ohio, at the age of 86, and was buried in Athens, Ohio.
