Biography

Samuel Carpenter, 72 or 73, passed away on 29 January 1895 at Keeneyville, Middlebury Township, Tioga, Pennsylvania. He was born in 1822 in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, the youngest of seven children of Jedediah Carpenter, Sr., 1776-1860 and Sally "Sarah" (Hill) Carpenter, 1778-unknown. He married Miss Mary M. Kiphart in 1850 at Middleboro, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Carpenter was survived by: his wife, Mary, b. 1828; children, Nancy (Carpenter) Gee, b. 1852; Charles E. Carpenter, b. 1853; Lorraine O. (Carpenter) van Gorder, b. 1858; Mortimer "Mort" W. Carpenter, b. 1861; Estella Z. (Carpenter) Evarts, b. 1865; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; children, Athialia M. Carpenter, 1854-1855; Gertrude Carpenter, 1869-1880; and siblings, Jedediah Carpenter, Jr., 1802-1857; James M. Carpenter, 1805-1852; Elizabeth "Betsey" (Carpenter) Thompson, 1806-1853; Sarah "Sally" (Carpenter) Willard, 1807-1880; Lurana (Carpenter) Beeman, 1813-1882; and Chancey W. Carpenter, 1818-1878.

Samuel is buried at the Middlebury Union Cemetery, Middlebury Center, Tioga, Pennsylvania. The Findagrave memorial ID is 104156139.
