Sarah was born in Anderson County, South Carolina on 29 Sep 1828. She was a daughter of John Burrell Carpenter and Elizabeth Emerson.[1]
Around 1846, she married William Pinckney Todd, and they made their home in the Eastern Sub-Division of Anderson County, South Carolina. [2] They had six children:[3]

William died in 1865, and Sarah lived on for sixty more years as a widow. [4] In 1880, she was living with son Harvey, a physician.[5] By 1910, she had moved to Caldwell County, North Carolina, to live with her son Amaziah and his family. [6] She lived with them for the rest of her years.
Elizabeth passed away on 26 Jun 1925, at the age of 96. She lies buried in Bellview Cemetery, Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina.[7]
