In the 1850 United States Federal Census Harry Carpenter [Hama (Nehemiah) Carpenter] [Henry Carpenter] 41 born abt 1809 in Ohio, farmer, was head of his household in Bern, Fairfield, Ohio, USA. Real Estate: 7000. Other Household Members, all born in Ohio, were his wife Mary Carpenter 38, and their children: James Carpenter 20, Ezekiel Carpenter 18, Rebeca Carpenter 16, David Carpenter 14, Catharine Carpenter 13, Paul Carpenter 11, Gabriel Carpenter 9, Marian Carpenter 7, and Zachariah Carpenter 2. In the 1856 Iowa, State Census Collection N Carpenter [Nehemiah Carpenter] 48 born abt 1808 in Ohio, farmer, was head of his household in Rapids, Linn, Iowa, USA. The family had arrived from Ohio to Iowa in 1852 - 4 years in Iowa. Other Household Members, all but one born in Ohio, were his wife Mary Carpenter 45, and their children C Carpenter 18 female, Paul Carpenter 15, Gabl , Carpenter 13, M E Carpenter 10 female, Z F Carpenter 6 male, E M Carpenter 4 female, and M E Carpenter 1 female Iowa. In the 1860 United States Federal Census Nehemiah Carpenter 51 born abt 1809 in Ohio, hotel keeper, was head of his household in Cedar Rapids, Linn, Real Estate Value: 5000 Personal Estate Value: 600. Other Household Members, all born in Ohio but two, were his wife Mary Carpenter 49, and their children, Gabriel Carpenter 16, Maria Carpenter 14, Zack F Carpenter 13, Louisa Carpenter 8, Mary Carpenter 4 Iowa, and Samuel Carpenter 2 Iowa. Six guests were residing in the hotel on census night. [3]
