Nicholas Carper, a son of Jacob Carper, was born about 1749 and died in Botetourt County VA in 1813. He married Elizabeth Harvey. The family moved from western Maryland to Botetourt County VA about 1778 and Nicholas is first mentioned in Court records in that county on May 14, 1779. On October 31, 1782, Nicholas was recruited to serve as a member of the Botetourt County VA militia "for three years or until the end of the war."
Nichols is listed on a monument to Revolutionary War veterans at the Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church at Fincastle, VA.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nicholas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nicholas:
Carper-280 and Carper-58 do not represent the same person because: Carper-280 was connected to the wrong father; he is the son of Jacob s/o of Nicholas according to "The Carpers of Roane County" by Peggy A. Grubb whereas Carper-58 is the son of Nicholas, s/o Nicholas and thus have different spouses.I have corrected the lineage for Carper-280 and am rejecting the match based on this and the fact that Carper-280 was living in Sharpsburg, MD while the marriage of Nicholas and Elizabeth Shrider was performed in Frederick, MD.
