There is a history in this family of the surname spelling being changed from either Kerr to Carr then back to Kerr, this happens with Thomas, he is registered at birth as Kerr but his other documents are Carr.
Although to-date no marriage record can be found for Thomas and Annie, it may have been an irregular married, I made equiries via Scotlands People who replied ;
Marriages that were considered "irregular" would be recorded in the statutory records along with all the others. These non-church marriages consisted of an intent to marry: a declaration made in front of two witnesses. It was in essence the forerunner of today's modern registry ceremony. A licence was then granted by the Sheriff to say that the parties concerned were married and this was taken to the local register office and the marriage then entered into the book by the registrar, in the same way that the more standard church ceremonies were recorded.
The problem that occasionally crops up with these type of records - especially the earlier ones - is that sometimes the couple believed that the licence was all that was required and did not hand it in to the register office. Subsequently, you will find every so often that people who ought to have been recorded inevitably slipped the net. If you are unable to locate the couple you are looking for it is possible that they might fall into this category.''
This may well be the case here and no registration of the marriage was completed.
