Biography

Memoirs of Wayne County & City of Richmond, 1912, vol 2, Fox, Henry page 256:

"John H. CARR is one of those alert and progressive farmers who are maintaining the high prestige of Wayne county in the field of agricultural industry, and the owner of one of the handsome farm properties of Harrison Township, where, although measurably retired, he still gives some attention to diversified agriculture. He was born in Rockingham county Virginia Dec 28, 1858, a son of David and Rebecca (Spitzer) CARR, both of whom were likewise natives of Rockingham county, Virginia..........

......John H. Carr was afforded the advantages of public schools in Rockingham county, Virginia and worked on a farm there until he reached man's estate. In March, 1879, he came to Harison Township, Wayne county, and for a time worked on a farm. He then rented a farm in Jackson township, where he resided two years, removed to his present place in 1896, and has since been engaged in general farming and stock growing, showing marked discrimination in directing the different departments of the farm in such a way as to secure the best returns. Modern facilities are utilized and the farm is one of the most attractive homesteads of Harrison township. Mr. Carr is loyal to all the duties of citizenship and shows a commendable intrest in all that pertains to the general welfare of his home township and county, where he is held in unqualified esteem. He has rendered efficient service as supervisor of his district, and his political allegiance is given to the Republican party. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, lodge No. 552, at Jacksonburg. On Sept.4, 1887, Mr. Carr was united in marriage to Miss Salley E. White, daughter of James C. and Amanda (CARR) White of Jacksonburg........

.....and his widow is a member of the household of Mr. and Mrs Carr..... Mr and Mrs Carr have a son, J. Hervey, who adds brightness to the family home."

John was a farmer and also a school principal. John was born in 1858. He was the son of David Carr and Leannah Hottinger. He passed away in 1915.
