Sarah Carr was born on April 4, 1776 in Jamestown, Newport County, Rhode Island to Peleg Carr and Ruth Tew. [1]
According to The Carr book, a Carr genealogy published in 1947 by Arthur A. Carr, Sarah's parents were Peleg Carr (born in Jamestown, R. I., Oct. 19, 1741), and Ruth Tew, daughter of William Tew. Ruth Tew was a sister of both Sarah and Desire Tew, who each married Peleg's brother James. Desire married James after the death of her sister, Sarah. The Carr book states that Peleg and Ruth were married on December 7, 1766 in Jamestown, Rhode Island. The author speculates that the family subsequently moved to New York State, into the Otsego County, region, since the children all seemed to have married and lived there.
That they retained the Quaker faith of their ancestors is attested by the fact that Peleg, at least, is buried in the old Quaker burying ground at Laurens, N. Y. Along with their religious faith they also retained the tradition of large families. Ten children were born to them. (pages 56 and 57)[2]
