Biography

Robert was born the son of Robert Carr, I and Mary Sission in about 1710. He married Mary Williams.

I'd like to make the observation that based upon his will and other documentation the Carr's were large plantation owners in Virginia. This means they were probably slave owners. If this is the case we shouldn't hide the fact. That's not the scientific way. This kind of past can only hurt us if we look away and try to cover it up. That's what our Ancestor's did.

Disputed Parents of Robert Carr-2721

The parents of Robert Carr, II Carr-2721 (and Carr-5367 after a pending merge) are in question ? That also means from research that Thomas Carr Carr-3106, which is proven from all accounts of the family, to be the brother of Robert Carr-2721 would need to have the same parents making his parents also n dispute....

First : Case for this profile, Robert Carr, I Carr-5199 being correct as father of Carr-2721 and mother Mary Sisson Sisson-1406 would need more research. So far have found this land record that seems to prove he had a son Robert Carr, Jr. as they are both listed in the record: Land record listed in Virginia Genealogy Society Quarterly's, page 140: " Robert Carr, Jr. 240 a. Nansemond Co. W side Blackwater R and bounded by Jacob Darden's line crossling Mirey Br Cedar Marsh (p 587) Robert Carr, Senior Line', Jacob Darden's c in Stephen Darden's line (p. 588) 30 Aug 1743. (note that the date is too late to mean Robert Carr, the Second, & his son Robert, the 3rd, as Robert the 3rd was not born until about 1740.).

Second Scenario: See profile of PROVEN Brother Thomas Carr Carr-3106 which if correct would make the father of Robert Carr, II Carr-2721, Thomas Carr, Sr. Carr-3105 born abt 1665, that being the case then Thomas Carr Carr-5369and Thomas CarrCarr-3106 will need merged retaining Thomas Carr, Sr Carr-3105 as the father of both brothers.

Thomas Carr was born in England, about 1679, and married Mary Dabney. She was born Jan. 22, 1680, and died in Virginia, Sep 7 1748, Thomas is supposed to have come from the border land between England and Scotland, and had a grant of land from the King consisting of 25,000 acres in the counties of Louisa and Albermarle in Virginia. This ancient document was written on parchment, granting to "our trusty and well beloved Thomas carr, gentleman, a tract of land in our colony of Virginia." continued:

"It is supposed that two brothers came over from England with Thomas [ see profile Carr-3106] and his wife namely: Robert and John. Robert settled in another part of the colony and John died without issue. Thomas died May 29, 1738. Thomas and Mary's children were: 1. John Carr b June 25 1706 2. William Carr b abt 1707 3. Thomas Carr b 1709 4. Sarah Carr b Nov 14 1714."

Will Record

"Will Written 1 May 1773 Nansemond County, Virginia

In the name of God Amen. I, Robert Carr of Virginia, and County of Nansemond, being sick and weak in body, but in perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it, and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing it is appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. Ninthly: I give to my loving son ROBERT CARR, the Plantation he now dwells on, And all the other part of my land in Hertford County; also the particulars which I have already put in his possession to him and his heirs forever.

Likewise all the rest of my estate in any kind or quality whatsoever, land excepted, to be squarely divided among all my children then living, to them and their heirs forever.

Eleventhly: My will and desire is that my pine wood land bought of Col. Jesse Brown, be sold by my three sons, ROBERT CARR, MATTHEW CARR, and TITUS CARR, and the money arising thereby to be squarely divided among them three, to them and their heirs forever. I do hereby appoint my two sons, TITUS CARR and JOSHUA CARR, my whole and sole Executors to this my last Will, revoking and disannuling all other former Wills by me made, ratifying this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:

Carr-5367 and Carr-2721 appear to represent the same person because: Just adopted this profile and changed the DOB to 1710 DOD 1773 match with Carr-2721, Robert Sr. only had one son named Robert per his Will Record and other records. Thanks for the merge!

All these that are listed as half SIBLINGS of Robert Carr born 1710 ......Joshua Carr , Matthew Carr , Titas Carr , Mary Carr , Elizabeth Carr and Lydia Carr are NOT siblings those are his CHILDREN. Robert Carr born 1710 Nansemond VA died about 1773 also there in Nansemond County, Virginia he married Mary Williams born about 1713. They also had a son Robert Carr in about 1740, named in his father's will record which I just posted on the profile, he married Ann Taylor. The South Carolina Robert Carr is a different family and needs untangled from this family at least within this generation although they might connect farther back.

I have adopted many of the profiles of what were previously listed as siblings of Robert born 1710 and fixed them by making them his children. Also messaged the PM for Lydia as to the change that needs made. The only one other than Lydia I question now is Thomas born 1736 that is too late a birth date for Mary Sisson's son she would have been 50. I think Thomas belongs as a brother of this Robert, with a much earlier birth date ? Help from the PM's is appreciated !
