07 JUN 1654, in Newport, Rhode Island.[citation needed]
Robert married Elizabeth Lawton. Robert's will made his brother-in-law Robert Lawton overseer. He left his wife Elizabeth his estate to raise their children Robert and Abigail.[1] Elizabeth was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Lawton.[2]
Robert was a merchant in Newport.[2] He was a grand juryman in 1687 and Assistant in 1698-1703[3]
The Boston News-Letter of 15 January 1705, p.2, announced:
Will dated 8 July 1703.[1][2] and was proven 05 FEB 1704 at Newport.[2]
Robert's daughter Abigail married James Honyman of Newport, clerk, who was still living in 1725 when he brought suit against George Dunbarr of Newport, shopkeeper. James filed suit on behalf of his son James Honyman Jun., a minor, over trespass on property at Newport. The suit states that James Jr.'s great-grandfather Robert Carr in his will dated 20 April 1681 left property to his son Robert [Carr], who died in 1703 leaving only one son named Robert (the plaintiff's uncle), and one daughter, Abigail Carr (the plaintiff's mother), who died 18 March 1709 leaving the plaintiff her only son. His uncle was seised of the property and died 20 September 1710 without issue.[4]
