Research notes

  • Rootweb: posting (ENG-SHEFFIELD list) by Jane Lachs, 24 May 2001, "CARR in Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, England".
  • Sheffield History Forum thread.

Richard Oliver added 6 July 2019: Pedigree "Carr of Wadsley and Sheffield" in Sheffield City Archives (Hobson Collection) shows George Carr, yeoman, sometime of the Yews in Bradfield but afterwards of Sheffield.

  • *Extract from "The Carrs of Southey and Dublin" - monograph by Sidney Oldall Addy, M.A. c. 1929

"John Carr also had two other sons. One of these was George Carr of the Yews, near Worral in Bradfield, and of Sheffield, who died on 5th April 1818, aged 82. From him was descended John Carr, a well-known surgeon in Sheffield, whose daughter Thirza Ann married John Hobson of Tapton Elms, Sheffield, the father of Bernard Hobson, MSc... and the late Sir Albert Hobson, an eminent economist and financier, who became Master Cutler, Lord Mayor of Sheffield and Pro-Chancellor of the University."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
