Biography

William Carr was born on May 12, 1763 in Jamestown, Newport County, Rhode Island in North America. According to FamilySearch.org at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F87K-26B : 6 December 2014) his parents were James and Sarah Carr.

The "Carr Family Records", by Edson I. Carr, p. 95 states the following:

"VI. William Carr (738) born in Jamestown, R. I., May 12, 1763, married Lydia Hopkins and settled in South Kingstown, R.I. He was a soldier in the revolutionary war. He died in 1804 with yellow fever and four of his children died of the same disease, all within seven weeks of each others' deaths. His wife and three children survived this great family affliction. This industrious mother kept her family together and by good management paid for her home. She subsequently moved to Otego, N.Y. but died in Rhode Island while on a visit there. Their surviving children were,

1360 X 1. Rowland Carr, b. Oct. 21, 1791.
1361 X 2. James Carr, b. April 15, 1798.
1362 X 3. William G. Carr, b. Sept. 1801.

(The numbers before the children's names above indicate birth order, and the "X" if it exists, indicates that they also had children, according to the author).

Some of my grandparent-ancestors are Carrs and Hopkins. Gov Caleb Carr of Rhode Island and also Stephen Hopkins of mayflower, my Carr line comes from Sarah Carr daughter of Jesse Carr and Elizabeth Madison, seems we may be distant cousins
