From Weekly Sun, Thursday, 28 January, 1892, page 5 col, 3. Jacksonburg: Samuel Carr was born in Rockingham Co., Virginia in 1809. In 1823 (March 1, 1832) he was married to Sallie Miley. This union was blessed with 12 children, of whom 4 sons and 2 daughters still survive him. They emigrated from VA in 1838 and located on the farm where he died. His wife died 14 years ago and 2 years later, he was married to Mary Ann Shank, who died a few weeks before his death occurred. Mr. Carr was a well known citizen and one of the most extensive land owners in this part of the county." "Henry Carr from Iowa was called home to attend the funeral of his father."

Weekly Sun, Thursday, 28, January 1892, page 8, col 1:

Samuel Carr, an aged citizen of Jacksonburg died of pneumonia on the 8th (January 8, 1892) inst. His wife Mary A. Carr died on the Saturday previous. Mr. Carr's age was 72 (83) years. He was a native of Virginia and came to this county 54 years ago. Reverend Jacob Rife of Boston conducted the funeral services.( Boston is a community South of Richmond, Indiana, in Wayne county.

Samuel Carr, third son of John and Rebecca (Holsinger) Carr was born August 9, 1806 (August 7, 1809) in Rockingham County, Virginia. He worked on the farm till he was eighteen years of age, when he learned the blacksmiths trade. He was married to Sallie, daughter of Henry Miley, of Rockingham County, VA by whom he had ten children, six now living - Henry and John, living in Iowa, Joseph of Jacksonburg; Lewis R.; Elizabeth, wife of William Cook of Henry County, Indiana; Amanda, wife of James White of Oxford, Ohio. Joseph, Martin, Samuel and Sarah are deceased. Mr Carr came to Wayne County with his wife and two children in 1835 with $60.00 in his pocket and worked at his trade in Jacksonburg. He first purchased 48 acres, to which he has added from time to time till he now owns 269 acres, all well improved. His first property tax was 18 3/4 cents and one year during the war, his tax amounted to $318.00. Mrs. Carr died in 1877 and in 1879,( November 18, 1879) Mr. Carr married Mary Ann, daughter of Joseph Shank (deceased). Mr. Carr is a member of the Society of Dunkards."

(In the early years it was called the Dunkard Church and the members Dunkards. There was a denominational split in 1878 and 1880. In the early 1900's the name was changed to Church of the Brethren.)

Samuel Carr Will filed and dated February 12, 1892 Will written on March 24, 1890. Item 2nd: I give devise and bequeath to my wife Mary Ann Carr...... Item 3rd: For the reason of the physical inability and mental incapacity of my son Lewis Carr....... Item 4: I give devise and bequeath to be equally shared by and divided between and among my sons and my daughters. Henry Carr, John Carr, Elizabeth Cook, Joseph Carr and Amanda White.
