Biography

Betsy was born December 23, 1815 to John Carr and Margaret Peggy Holsinger in Long Meadows, Rockingham County, Virginia. At age 23, she married Henry Coverston in Rockingham county, Virginia. They had five children together.

Betsy was a member of the Church of the Brethren and was baptised Sept 28, 1845 by Benjamin Bowman. At the time, she lived in Nesterville, Virginia on the east side of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

She passed away on 10 Jan 1886 in Oswego, Kansas. She is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Labette, Kansas.

Research Note: Her headstone appears to have a death year of 1885, however the actual year of her death is 1886. This is supported by a newspaper story printed 21 Jan 1886 about her recent death (see source) and then one about her husband's death just a few weeks later (see his sources). Unsure why the headstone was engraved with 1885.
