Carmela Carrabba is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Pietro Carrabba and Anna Provenzano, who married in 1779.
Carmela marries at least twice, first to Vincenzo Marrone, son of Gioachino Marrone and Giovanna di Miceli, on 2 February 1806. Her father has died by this time.[1]
Carmela remarries to Gioachino Sciortino (“Xiurttino”), son of the late Leoluca Sciortino and the living Giuseppa Ciavarello, on 21 June 1807. Her mother, who is still living, is called by the surnamed "Cannavazzo" in this record.[2]
Gioachino and Carmela have at least one child, Bernarda (c. 1814).
Bernarda marries Pasquale Vernagallo on 19 January 1834.[3]
In the 1834 census Gioachino, reportedly 53 (b. 1780---he is 50), and Carmela, 54 (b. 1779), live in the first vanella off the strada di Collura, beyond where it turns and crosses the boundary between quarters.[4]
Death
Carmela dies at the reported age of 66 (inaccurate, she is probably closer to 76), on 9 November 1861 in Corleone. She is predeceased by her husbands, Vincenzo Morrone and Giacomo Sciortino, and her parents. Her mother's surname is recorded as Palazzo.[5]
