Simon Carranza was born in Devine, Texas on 18 February 1910 to Justo Carranza and Maria Villarreal. He was married a woman named Sara, but records containing her maiden name have not been found.[1] Simon died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 34.[2][3]

1920: Simon Carranza is enumerated as Son of Head of Household in Justice Precinct 2, Frio, Texas. He is 9 years old and lives in a rented home with his parents and 5 other siblings. He speaks Spanish and cannot speak English; he did not attend school.[4]
1930: Simon Carranza is enumerated as Son of Head of Household on 16 1/2 - 3 Road in Edcouch, Texas. He is 20 years old and lives with his parents and 7 other siblings. Their home is owned and valued at $650; the family does not own a radio. Simon works as a farm laborer. He cannot read or write and does not speak English.[5]
World War II Draft Registration
16 October 1940: Simon Villarreal Carranza is 30 years old and Head of Household in Edcouch, Elsa. His next of kin is his wife, Sara Carranza, and he works for Perry E Chols. Simon is 5'11" and weighs 155 pounds. He is listed as white, with brown eyes, black hair, and a dark complexion.[1]
