Biography

Philo Hale Carrier was born about 1810[1] in Madison County, New York.[2] He was the son of David Carrier and Elizabeth Howe.[citation needed]

Based on the age of his oldest known child, Duane, he married Mary Williams, who was born in Chenango County, New York, about 1835. Based on Us Census and other records, they had at least the following children:[2]

  1. Duane William Carrier, b. 30 Jan 1836 Oneida County, NY; d. Oct 1908[3]
  2. Julia Mary Carrier, b. ca. 1842 Erie County, NY; d. 1925 (Julia Vining White nee Carrier)[4]
  3. Abby Elizabeth Carrier, b. ca. 1844 Erie County, NY
In 1840, Philo H. Carrier lived in Evan, Erie, New York.[5]
In 1850, Philo H. Carrier, a farmer, lived in Evans, Erie, New York, with his wife Mary and 3 children. The families of Chauncy and of two David Carriers were enumerated on the same page.[6]
In 1855, Philo Carrier, a farmer, his wife and their 3 children lived in Evans.[2]
In 1860, Philo Carrier lived in Evans with his wife Mary W. and three children. He was a farmer.[7]
In 1875, Philo Carrier, a farmer, lived with his wife, sister, son and a hired hand (female) in Evans.[8]

Philo died in 1879 and was buried at the Forest Avenue Cemetery, Angola, Erie, New York.
