I have two stubborn brick walls: Leonard Cole, born in the Colony of New York in about 1777, and Joseph Forbes, born in Ottawa in about 1841. Joseph or his ancestors may have changed the name from Ledoux (spelling?) after deserting from the army in Canada. His wife's death certificate calls her Mrs. James Forbes. But his son's marriage license spells the name Farb and names his mother as Philomene Boivin.
