Biography

James was born in 1843. He was the son of John Carroll and Hulda Hearn. He passed away in 1920. Military Service: War of Northern Aggression (Civil War), Private, Company F, 14th Texas Infantry, Randles Brigade, Walkers Division, Texas Mississippi Department, called the "Yankee Routers". His hair was white and he had a long beard. He was a fire and brimstone kind of preacher that one could hear for a mile. He pastored at Liberty Hill Methodist at Pearly and then was transferred to the Klondike community in Delta County, Texas. After his first wife, Mary Jane Covington, passed away he married a second wife from Louisana. His second wife outlived him and she returned to Louisiana after his death. Since James Crayton Carroll was a minister, his family moved often. In 1880 they were living in Hopkins County, Texas. In 1900 they are living in Franklin County, Texas and by 1912 in Delta County, Texas.
