Marriage and children
John married Margaret Agatha Hughes on 30 April 1906 at St Mary's Church in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand. He was living in Waharoa at the time. John's best man was Andrew Rowles, while his brother Matthew was groomsman and his sister Ellen was a bridesmaid.
The morning after, John and Margaret left for Auckland and Thames on their honeymoon trip.

Near the end of his life, he was noted as living on 21 Carroll St, Waharoa.
John passed away on 1 Apr 1969 at a private hospital in Matamata, Waikato, New Zealand. His funeral was held at the Church of Holy Angels, Matamata on 2 Apr 1969, followed by burial at Matamata Cemetery (Block 23, Plot 48).

Waikato Times, Volume 90, Issue 14053, 5 May 1919 - accompanied his sister Agnes May's wedding in Te Aroha. Interestingly, his father was noted as being the "late" Mr. Carroll of Wardville, which is strange as he was definitely still alive. Perhaps it means that he was late of Wardville, and he had moved by that date.
