Anne was born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland in 1733. She was the daughter of Daniel Carroll I of Upper Marlboro and Eleanor Brooke Darnall.
Her father died when she was 18 and her mother moved the family to Rock Creek (now Forest Glen).
Anne married William Brent of Virginia in about 1754 and they had 8 children.

Anne's brother John Carroll became the first bishop of Baltimore and the first Catholic Archbishop in America. He established the Rock Creek Mission from a small chapel attached to their mother's mansion, and then built Saint John the Evangelist church on their mother's property. He also established Georgetown college which became Georgetown university. Her brother Daniel, was a member of the Senate of the Maryland legislature (1777–81) and was elected to the Continental Congress (1781–84). In 1781, he signed the Articles of Confederation. Charles Carroll of Carrollton who signed the Declaration of Independence, was her cousin.
Her son Robert Brent was the first mayor of Washington DC. He was Paymaster-General of the United States Army, Judge of the Orphan's Court for Washington County, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Schools and first president of the Patriotic Bank and of the Columbia Manufacturing Co. Her son Daniel Carroll Brent served as deputy state secretary and as the US Consul in Paris. [2]
Her son William Brent was Captain of the Cavalry in the First Legion of the Militia of the District of Columbia and later a Colonel. He served as Clerk of the Court in the District of Columbia and served as temporary Secretary of State under Jefferson. [3]
Anne was widowed in 1780 and she died in Washington DC in 1804.
