Kathryn Carroll (called Kathy) is the daughter of Walter J Carroll (called Jim) and Kathryn Corcoran (called Kay). She was born in Brockton MA, and was raised on Long Island in New York, where her father practiced law. She has three living brothers. Her mother had two premature babies that died at birth.
After finishing college Kathy relocated to Louisiana for graduate school, and settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she is a university administrator at Louisiana State University. She married her husband, Stephen Beck, in 1992,and they have two children.
Kathy has pursued family genealogy as a pastime, especially finding out more about her paternal grandmother’s family origins in northwest England (Mossop), the Carrolls of New Brunswick, and her maternal grandmother’s King and Allen ancestors in colonial Massachusetts.
After encountering numerous errors in trees, transcriptions, and even published materials through the “hint” system in Ancestry.com, she is interested in learning more about formal genealogy techniques.
