by Peter E McLeod - a great grandson of Nancy Carten, from data found in Canada Censi and NB Govt Archives. During the month of June 2014. Updated on February 8, 2016 with data provided by Nancy Reardon, a great great grand daughter of Nancy Carten.

Nancy Agnes Carten, born in Ireland about 1832, married Robert Eden Jeffery in Canada, not in Ireland, as I thought. but information I received from Nancy Reardon, provided a source of information, which is as follows: Married on July 31, 1856, in Queens County, NB, by Rev. Abraham Wood. One document listed Duncommun as his birthplace in Ireland but it was in script and I cannot be certain. Robert was born about 1833 and died in 1920. Nancy's father was James Carten of Ireland, born about 1807 and died March 15 1881. Nancy's mother was Margaret McCluskey who was born about 1808 in Ireland. Nancy and Robert had ten children according to the census lists. They were: James William Jeffery Sep 27 1856-1945; Euphemia Jane Jeffery Mar 18 1858-1885; Robert Wellington Jeffery De c 14 1859-1942; Wallace Eden Jeffery March 28 1865-1951; Frederic Isaac Jeffery Feb 09 1867- ????; Deborah Emmeline Jeffery May 03 1869-1912; Sarah Olive Jeffery Nov 04 1871-????; Absalom Bismark Jeffery Aug 01 1815-1928; Peter Jeffery Dec 21 1876 Isaac Newton Jeffery 1883-1954.

These were the dates in their family bible.  Frederick Isaac was called Ike, Absalom used his middle name Bismark.

James married Jane Muir November 24 1882 and died September 17 1845 Euphemia  married James Branford Crowe July 13 1875 and died December 13 1885 Robert married Georgeanna Mary Fanjoy October 07 1888 and died February 14 1942 Mary married James Branford Crowe August 04 1887 and died January 06 1936. (Peter's mother and her sisters called her Aunt Georgie.) Wallace married Annie J. Smollett August 25 1891 and Ada Alice Elliott April 30 1927 and died June 02 1951 Frederick married Della Maud Reece April 06 1904 and died March 04 1928 Deborah married Stanley McLellan Densmore October 07 1888 and died May 14 1912 Sarah died April 09 1873 Bismark married Mary H. Hetherington April 16 1902 and Bessie M. Watson July 27 1910 and died April 29 1928.  Bessie remarried Robert Ranson after Bismark's death.

Robert Jeffery and Georgie Fanjoy were first cousins.  Roberts mother was Nancy Carten Jeffery and Georgie's mother was Nancy's sister Mary Jane Carten Fanjoy.

You will notice that James Crowe married two Jeffery sisters and had children with each.  He and Euphemia had Sarah born 1876, Margaret born 1878, Branford born 1880 and John born June 30 1883.  Euphemia died in 1885.  Isaac Newton was born July 15 1883 in Fredericton.  I was told his father was a Crowe. He was brought up with the Jeffery family and took the Jeffery name. James and Mary were married in 1887 and had seven children born from 1888 until 1905.  They lived in Fredericton for several years and by 1911 were living in Cranbrook B.C.  James died there in 1926 and Mary in 1936.

Isaac Newton Jeffrey married Alice Martha Wiggins and died March 16 1956.
