Marriage year of 1848 is incorrect. 1850 census shows Nancy was still his wife in 1850
posted by Robin White
Robin, I suspect that possibly one of the older children may have given the census taker the information. If asked the mother's name instead of the wife of the head of household, that person may have said Nancy. The marriage to Eliza Parker appears in Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, 1750 - 1930 Vol. VI, Page 891, Bedford County Marriage Bonds as 1848, 8, 15. Littleberry Carter & Eliza Parker, dt Sarah. William H. Bobbett, Surety. Consent of Edward W. Parker. Married by Joseph Lear, Aug 15, 1848. If I remember correctly, the marriages of Bedford County listed by Hinshaw ended in the early 1850's so 1858 is out.... The census had confused me as well...until I thought about the years listed in Hinshaw's.

Carter-29889 and Carter-10286 appear to represent the same person because: We both had Littleberry/Littleburg in our trees... Let's combine them...
