Biography

Alexander, born say 1775, married Sarah Herring, 6 June 1795 Duplin County bond, Solomon Carter bondsman. [1]

Alexander was head of a Duplin County household of 4 "other free" in 1800. [2] Sarah Herring, daughter of Daniel Herring and Sarah Whitfield, died in 1802, in Duplin county, North Carolina. [3]

On June 2, 1803, in Duplin county, North Carolina, Alexander married Susan Stewart. [4] On 5 December 1806 he sold 100 acres in Duplin which had previously belonged to Solomon Carter, and on 29 August 1809 he made a deed with Constant Carter, probably his mother, to maintain her for life [DB 3A:550; 4A:79]. He made 10 purchases and sales of land in Duplin County between 1806 and 1813 [DB 3A:306, 550, 556; 4:284, 392, 393, 394, 396, 402, 462]. One was for land at the head of Carter's Mill Pond and Juniper Branch adjacent to Jonathan Nickens, a relative of James Nickens who married Margaret Carter of Hertford County.

Alexander is found on the United States Census of 1810, 1820 and 1830, living in Duplin county, North Carolina. [5] He was head of a Duplin County household of 5 "free colored" and 6 slaves in 1820.[6] [7]

In 1840, Alexander is living on the South Side of the Neuse River, in Craven county, North Carolina. [8] In 1841, in Craven county, North Carolina, Alexander married Mary Casey [9]

There is no evidence of Alexander living at Pembroke Plantation, the home of the Nash Family.

From: https://smithandcarterfamilytree.blogspot.com/: Daniel Bryant Carter was the son of Alexander Carter and Sarah Herring. Here is what we know. Daniel Bryant was the first born of seven children. We do not know a lot about him. However we do have a photo of him and his wife Nancy Parker. He was born in 1797 on Cool Water Plantation. He got married in 1813 at the age of 16 most likely in Duplin County.He died in Cartersville NC in August of 1859 at the age of 62 years old.

Are there any sources for the middle name? All records I've found show just Alexander Carter (except for "Alexander Caster" in the 1800 census).
