Biography

Edward Carter, II, was born circa 1675-1680, a son of Edward Carter. In 1712, Edward, Carter, II was tithable on himself and a slave in the 1712 tax list for Beaufort Precinct, North Carolina. In 1716 he patented 301 acres in Beaufort Precinct, Town Creek, Beaufort County, North Carolina, and paid tax on that tract in the same year. [1]

Edward wrote his Will on 23 March 1735/6 in New Hanover County, North Carolina and it was proved 10 May 1736. By his Will, Edward set his slave, Peter, free for sixty years and left land on the east side of the Northeast Branch of Cape Fear River to his grandchildren: William, Edward, Solomon, and Thomasin Carter [SS 877/142] [2]

Should his birth date be 1680. That is the date Heinegg uses.

Carter-12968 and Carter-12916 appear to represent the same person because: Edward (1673/1680) Carter, his descendants (including four generations of the proposed merges) and ancestors are meticulously researched and documented in “Free African Americans of North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina From Colonial Times to About 1820,” Fifth Edition, Paul Heinegg, Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 2005, pp. 254-267.

Likely that his Edward is supposed to be the son of Thomas Sr (not Jr) as their births are only 8 years apart.

Thanks!

Carter-8002 and Carter-4690 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, birth place, mother's name, death place. These represent the same person and should be merged. More research and sources are necessary, but should not hold up the merge.
