Daniel Carter was born June 27, 1748, in New Jersey a son of John Carter, Sr. and Rebecca Stuart. Daniel was married three times. On February 22, 1782, in Wilkes county, North Carolina, Daniel married Nancy Cobb. They became the parents of five children before she died in 1795. His second wife was Anne Jones, who died in 1824. His third wife was Sarah J. Weems, who died in 1833. [1]
At the time of the American Revolutionary War, Daniel was living in Surry county, North Carolina, where he served in the Militia. [2] Daniel is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A019898. DAR records indicate that Daniel died after June 27, 1829, in Greene county, Tennessee. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, Elisha Carter, who married Margrette "Peggy" Anderson. [3]
