Biography

Memorial for Joseph Howard Carter by Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church: Joseph Howard Carter was born October 6, 1917, in Laurens County, GA. He was the son of Joseph Washington and Louella Todd Carter. On September 30, 1939, Brother Carter was married to Dorothy McKenzie of Tattnall County, GA. To this union were born five children, four of whom survive his passing: Charlotte Carter Young, Jerry H., Danny Joe, and Billy H. Carter. Brother Carter joined Cedar Creek Primitive BC on August 1, 1963. His devotion and attendance testified of his love of the church. He was a faithful husband and loving father, a good neighbor, serving his family and his Church in a quiet Christian-like way. The Church feels Brother Carter's life is best described in Proverbs the 22nd Chapter verses 1 and 4, "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life." On September 14th, 1974, Brother Carter passed from this life. His funeral was conducted September 16, 1974, by his pastor, Elder Paul V. Thomas and his former pastor, Elder Virgil D. Waters with interment in the Church Cemetery. The Church mourns his passing, but feels its loss is Brother Carter's eternal gain. We extend to you, the family, our sincere sympathy and pray that God in His mercy and grace will comfort you and fill your loss with His loving kindness. The committee requests a copy of this memorial be given to the family, one be sent to the Banner Herald for publication, and one be placed in the Church records. In Brother Love, William E. Kirkland, C. Lavanda Lynn, Wendell D. Lynn

In Memoriam: In loving memory of J. Howard Carter, who passed away one year ago Sep 14, 1974. How blessed is the tie that binds out hearts in lasting love. The comradeship of kindred minds is like to that above. So when at last we have to part in sorrow and in pain we know we still are joined in hearts until we meet again. By: wife, Mrs. Howard Carter, children: M/M Johnny Young, M/M Jerry Carter, M/M/J Danny Joe Carter and Billy Carter, grandchildren: Gerrie Ann, Brook, Carson and Jennifer. - Metter Advertiser
