Birth (27 March 1833): In the 1880 census of Bienveille Parish, La. The children of J. A. Carter give their father's birth place as Florida. Military (from 18 June 1862 to 15 June 1865): According to the Adjutant General's Office in Washington D.C., Jan 31, 1908. "The records show that Jesse Carter (Name also J.A. Carter), 4th Sergeant, Company F, 2nd Louisiana Cavalry, C.S.A., enlisted June 18,1862, for the war, and that he was one of a number of prisoners of war surrendered May 26, 1865 at New Orleans, Louisiana, and paroled June 15, 1865, at Natchitoches, Louisiana. Death (April 1870): According to his widow's pension application, Jesse died from hemorrhage of the stomach. He was buried near Sparta, La.
