Mary Carter was born in 1775, in South Carolina, a daughter of Thomas Carter Jr and Mary Elizabeth Chilton. Her family was living in the Ninety Six District of South Carolina at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Her father is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as Ancestor #A020072. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of Mary Carter and her husband, Elias Sanders. [1]

Mary (Carter) Sanders is on the United States Census of 1850, living in Franklin county, Georgia. [2] Mary and Elias are buried in the Elias Sanders Family Cemetery, in Hart county, Georgia, laid out from territory that formerly was Elbert and Franklin counties in 1854. [3]
