Biography
Joseph Frederick Carter was born circa 1882, in Connecticut and was living in Cumberland, Providence county, Rhode Island in 1930. The census gives his wife's name as "Larena W. Carter" born circa 1886, in New York and children: Robert E. Carter, age 11, Clyde G. Carter, age 9, Muriel J. Carter, age 7, and Shelden W. Carter, age 3, all born in Rhode Island. [1]
On the 1940 census, Joseph's name is misspelled as "Joesept" Carter. His residence is given as the East Pawtucket, Providence, Rhode Island, the "same place as he was living in 1935." His wife's name is now "Lavena Carter" and children living at home are Clyde G. Carter, age 19, Muriel J. Carter, age 17, and Sheldon W. Carter, age 13. [2]
