Great grandson Richard born December 2, 1751 was taken to London as secretary to the Earl of Suffolk, a local land owner and a Member of Parliament. The fortune of the family changed radically. Richard made what was in those days was a considerable sum of money, probably from receiving bribes as favors on government contracts as was the custom in those days . he opened a bank account with Messers C. Hoare & Co. in Fleet street London in 1773 and the records show that in the first 18 months his account showed assets in excess of £4000. Several living members are still members of this bank. He lived at Foxley, a hamlet on the outskirts of Malmsbury. He enjoyed growing tulips which was fashionable at that time
