Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.
I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... 46 years ago!
I am a 33-yr member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve--affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.
I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.
Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.
Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, geocaching, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profile. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need.
Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

PS: On a personal note, thanks for all the Hillsborough/Pinellas County FindAGrave work that you've done, spacemanspiff. My research has benefited from your generosity!
I read your bio - what a life! We're delighted to have you here.
Be sure to look up "stickers" - they are ways to add little boxes to profiles, like military records, places of origin, indicating which children died young, etc. Here's one I did for my great-grandfather: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ambrose-448.
Anyway, that's not why I'm here. I am here to thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and with whom you might have ancestors in common. To get the best results, you need to continue adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, try a different one. 24 hours after you connect to an existing profile, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.
Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

I look forward to eventually flushing out my WikiTree; there's just not enough genealogy-time in the day! LOL. As it is, I spend time pretty much every day on FindAGrave, Ancestry, etc., and just updating my own genealogy database. Just in the past couple of months I've started linking as many DNA-tested cousins (maternal side only, so far) to my tree on Ancestry. I've also worked with the (previously Beta) family tree on 23andMe, and still am waaaay behind on getting my tree up-to-par on FamilySearch. And now I'm waaaay behind on WikiTree, too! LOL. Anyway, thanks again for the tips, and I hope to one day utilize them. Sincerely, John
Since you'd said to let you know if I had any questions, here's one-- On my profile page, on the right-hand side of the screen, under "DNA Connections," the 2nd paragraph states as follows: "It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with John" and then lists about 8 different persons and/or DNA test kit numbers and/or DNA testing company memberships. However, all 8 of the persons listed are ME. Why is it suggesting I might be a relative of myself, instead of recognizing that those persons are all actually me? I tried reading the Help pages, but couldn't find anything telling me how to "confirm myself" as my own match. Thanks in advance for any clarification. Sincerely, John
It's also a little odd. I'm going to forward it to leadership. Maybe they'll have a good answer. I'll let you know what I discover.
:)

What he is seeing is what everyone sees, all the DNA tests kits you enter that you have taken do show up on your profile. Your own test will show under 'are likely related to you' on your profile. Tell him that is just how the system shows he has taken the tests. It will look like that on all his ancestors' profiles too. The system does not have a separate section where it lists just your DNA.
I feel for him, I transferred mine to another company and later tested with that company. Now, I am matched to myself, my predicted relationship to myself is I am either my mother or my daughter. 😎
I appreciate your help!
John
