Biography

George Marion Carter, the son of Benjamin Franklin Carter (1865-Deceased) and Adaline Malinda Jordan (1863-Deceased) was born on 19 Apr 1902 in Alexander County, Illinois. [1]

His siblings included:

George (18) married Myrtle E. Dickerson (18) (born in Illinois on 1 Feb 1903; died on 25 Nov 1989) on 7 Apr 1921 in Cape Girardeau County. [2]

In April 1930, George Carter and family appeared on the US Federal Census, living at 7123 Bryn Mauer Ave. in Chicago, Illinois. Besides George, the family included his wife Myrtle, children Frank, Virgie, Rosetta, Charles, Wayne, and Robert, as well as Geoge's widowed mother Adeline Parmeley. In April 1935 George was living in Elco Township, Alexander County, Illinois, presumably with his wife and children. [4]

In April 1950, George Carter and family appeared on the US Federal Census, living in Elco Township, Alexander County, Illinois, in the same house they'd lived in April 1949. Besides George, the family included his wife Myrtle and daughter Sue. (See Research Notes below for full details) [5]

George died on 1 November 1987 in Union County Nursing Home in Anna, Union County, Illinois, aged 85. He was a resident of 537 N. John Street, Jonesboro, Union County, Illinois at the time. [6]

His funeral was held on 4 November at Norris and Son Funeral Home. [6]

He is buried in Jonesboro Cemetery in Jonesboro. [6] [7]

George's obituary was published on 3 November 1987 by the Southern Illinoisan (Carbondale, Illinois). [6]

An obituary for Myrtle E. Carter (died 25 Nov 1989) mentioned George Carter as her husband, who she married in 1921 and who died in 1987. [8]
