Biography
Lemuel was born in 1777, in Halifax, Virginia, a son of Richard Carter and Susannah Bigger. Lemuel's father is DAR Ancestor #A020051. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Lemuel Carter, who married Martha "Patsy" Powell; and of their daughter Mary "Polly" Carter, who married Mastin Powell. [1]
On December 4, 1801, in Halifax county, Virginia, Lemuel Carter married "Patsey" Powell. [2]
On February 5, 1821, Mary Carter, daughter of Lemuel Carter, married Isaac Satterfield. [3]
On July 15, 1822, in Halifax county, Virginia, Richard Carter, son of Lemuel Carter (and named for his father) married Catherine Brandon, daughter of Francis Brandon. [4]
On November 14, 1842, in Halifax County, Virginia, Parthiny Carter, daughter of Lemuel Carter, married Jarreth Powell. [5]
Lemuel Carter is found, at the age of 76 years, with his 60 year old wife, Martha, living in the household of their 42 year old son, Richard, in Halifax county, Virginia. [6] Lemuel Carter died in 1861, in Halifax county, Virginia. [7]

http://www.devintimber.org/getperson.php?personID=I67959&tree=dt001: Lemuel's father died before 1796, in Halifax county, Virginia and his mother, Susannah Bigger married David Powell after the death of Richard Carter. David Powell became the guardian of the youngest three children of Richard Carter. Lemuel married his step-sister, Patsey Powell, and his sister, Mary "Polly" Carter married Patsey's brother, Mastin, soon afterwards.
